Tire basics for heat, wear, and replacement

Tires carry every braking, steering, and acceleration force. The pressure on the door placard—not the tire sidewall—is the normal starting point.

Pressure and tread

Check pressure when tires are cold and inspect across the full tread. Center wear, edge wear, cupping, or one-sided wear can point to pressure, balance, suspension, or alignment issues.

Age and damage

Cracks, bulges, exposed cords, repeated pressure loss, and impact damage need professional inspection. Heat and sunlight can age rubber even when tread remains.

Replacing tires

Match the required size, load capacity, and speed rating. Ask where a two-tire replacement should be installed for your vehicle and conditions.
