Car basics
Car parts language, without the parts-counter fog
Part labels describe source and condition; they do not by themselves predict how long a repair will last.
Original and aftermarket
An original-equipment part follows the vehicle maker’s supply chain. An aftermarket part comes from another manufacturer and may offer different price, availability, or warranty terms.
New, remanufactured, and used
A remanufactured assembly has been rebuilt to a defined process; a used part comes from another vehicle. Ask which condition is quoted and what labor and part coverage apply.
What to compare
Compare the complete installed price, availability, stated part coverage, stated labor coverage, and any return or core requirements.
